Radiant skin, lustrous hair, and strong nails do not come easy to most of us. If you’ve stayed up several nights pampering every inch of your body, we sympathize with you. Here at Selah Salon and Spa, we know exactly what it’s like when you’re trying to keep up with your beauty routines, so we’ve provided some helpful (and easy!) actions you can take to naturally rejuvenize your hair, skin, and nails! Not only will these methods boost your daily beauty routine, but they will also improve your overall wellbeing. Due to the fact that hair, nails, and skin belong to the same biological system, the integumentary system, and are made up of similar proteins and cells, many of these remedies will likely improve all three. Let’s touch on five simple steps for a lifetime of healthy hair, skin, and nails.

Choose Helpful Foods for Healthy Hair and Skin

The first way you can incorporate healthier hair and skin into your life is by starting with your diet. The most important nutrients for skin health include vitamins A, C, D, and E as well as Zinc, Selenium, and Copper. These nutrients are all classified as antioxidants, which help protect against aging and skin damage. Essential fatty acids, especially Omega-3 fatty acids, also help to support skin health and protect against several skin conditions. Biotin and B7 are also optimal for your integumentary system as a whole. It is best to avoid inflammatory foods as they can trigger skin disorders and acne.

Hydrate Your Skin By Drinking Lots of Water

One of the first signs that you may be dehydrated is if you have dry skin. As dehydration continues, it may lead to a loss of elasticity in the skin. When you are chronically dehydrated, you could end up with stubborn, dry, itchy skin, and this can also contribute to signs of aging. The best way to hydrate is by consuming sufficient amounts of water, preferably filtered. To add some variety, you could try adding lemon or homemade herb and fruit infused water. If you’re wondering how much water you should be consuming, it is estimated to drink between .5-1 oz of water for each pound you weigh.

Limit Your Exposure to Harmful UV Rays

Believe it or not, too much sun exposure can be a catch-22 for your hair and skin. When it comes to receiving your intake of vitamin D, it is best to limit sun exposure anywhere from ten to thirty minutes. This range is averaged on the season, various skin types, and proximity to the equator.  Too much sun exposure can not only lead to skin cell damage, but it can also cause dry and thinning hair. Just like showering in hot water can dry out your hair, dry and hot weather can have the same effect. Balancing your time outdoors is important for the sake of your hair and skin.

Reduce Stress to Sustain a Healthy Integumentary System

If you’ve noticed that you’ve been having a lot of acne breakouts, brittle nails, and thinning hair, this can definitely be tied to an abundance of stress hormones. Stress is a common cause when it comes to acne. Stress can trigger inflammation, which can also lead to rash, eczema, and psoriasis. Chronic stress can also cause your nail fibers to weaken and for your hair to fall out much more. You can take on plenty of activities to reduce stress including meditation, yoga, cardio, arts and crafts, going outside, mindfulness, and massage therapy.

Consume the Best Supplements for Glowing Skin, Hair, and Nails

It’s as easy as taking a couple of vitamins a day if you want your hair, nails, and skin to shine like never before. Some of the best supplements you can use for all three are collagen, horsetail, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), and turmeric. Each of these supplements are abundant with antioxidants that target the overall state in which your hair, skin, and nails reside. When you begin to consume these supplements regularly, you can not only notice shinier and glowing results, but you can also expect for your hair, skin, and nails to grow faster and sustain a longer life!
